Social/Infrastructure Development
1. Safety improvements for the village:
- speed calming in Main St / Norco St / Rowland Creek Rd
- combating anti social and destructive behavior in the Hall park/Buttery precinct
- eliminate ‘hooning’ with vehicles in the village and nearby parklands
- lighting in Norco Street and at rear of Buttery
- one way at lower Rowlands Ck Rd – roundabout in front of Norco St
- upgrade Kyogle Road at eastern end of village
- eliminate dip in main Street between bridge and general store
· potential for village bypass in longer term
2. Work with Council to improve access throughout the village, including
· pedestrian/cycle link Sweetnam Park to Sports Ground and Smiths Ck Rd
· achieve a totally wheelchair friendly village
3. Work with Council to achieve a cycle way that links Uki and Murwillumbah and other Tweed communities.
4. Raise the funds to renovate/upgrade the Uki Hall
5. Establish the Uki Community Garden (includes a pizza oven and a green waste site)
6. Family friendly projects :
· Establish daytime playgroup/playground in the village centre (independent of the operation of Uki school after school care),
· Provide a baby change table in the public toilets
7. Create facilities for youth:
- mountain bike/BMX park
- skate park
- movies in park at rear of Buttery
- a greater range of sporting, entertainment and cultural opportunities, perhaps to include a clubhouse/meeting place
· accessible swimming hole
8. Facilitate improved community communications & dialogue:
- a prominent signboard to advertise community/school events
- recruitment of more community volunteers
- more support for the CTC
- better use of the website (ukivillage.com.au)
- establish a new resident’s information kit
· include views of the indigenous community in village planning
9. Investigate alternative community transport options, eg more public transport services, car pooling, a community bus
10. Promote Uki arts, culture and healing – link to TSC cultural development program and establishment of themed festivals and events
