MOUNT WARNING NATIONAL PARK (2,380 ha)

A NSW World Heritage Rainforest Park Mt Warning (2210ha), in far north-eastern New South Wales, is reached by leaving the Pacific Highway at Murwillumbah and following the Kyogle Road west for 12 kilometres. Turn onto Mt Warning Road and proceed a further six kilometres to the Breakfast Creek picnic area at the park entrance.
For those less inclined to attempt the climb, the Lyre Bird Walk is a 500 metre stroll from the parking area to an elevated viewing platform looking out over the rainforest and Breakfast Creek.  An information board on the park is situated near the stairs at the start of the summit walking track.
Camping and fires are not permitted in the Mount Warning National Park. However Korrumbyn Creek picnic area provides picnic tables, barbeques, wood, water and toilets. For people wishing to camp overnight or longer, a privately operated facility – Wollumbin Caravan Park – is on the Mount Warning Road, 3.5km from the park proper.
Allow at least 4 hours for the 8.8km return walk; good non-slip footwear is essential.

The walk to the summit is challenging, particularly in the hotter months, because most of it is steep or very steep. Near the top you'll find a chain to help you up the last of the climb.
