Stokers Siding

Stokers Siding is an idyllic village in the Tweed Valley, 15 minutes from Uki, 40 minutes north of Byron Bay, or 8 km south of Murwillumbah. 140 km from Brisbane and 862 km from Sydney.

It was first settled in 1882 when Joseph Stoker bought 600 acres at 2 shillings an acre. It was to be used as farming land. First sugar cane was tried then later they moved to dairy cows and bananas. The Murwillumbah to Lismore rail opened in 1894.  It was the meeting of the roads and the train line that gave birth to Stokers Siding.

It is a quiet picturesque village set amongst rolling green pastures and sub tropical rainforest within eye sight of the ever present Mt Warning/ Wollumbin. Walking through the village is like walking through a historical railway village. You would still expect to hear the steam engines chugging down the now disused railway line.

A General Store/Post Office with verandah tea room is situated in the old railway station opposite the pottery and children's park, offering a range of meals, snacks, coffee, soft drinks and Devonshire Teas.

Stokers Siding is well-known for its long-established pottery and gallery business “Stokers Siding Pottery”, housed in a historic 1921 building and the famous “Stokers Siding Garage”, an Australia-wide Volkswagen icon which is not only a working mechanical repair business but a veritable Volkswagen museum.

The village has a quaint public school “Stokers Siding Public school” which is very active and involved in its local community.

The village also boasts a very well used community owned hall “the Stokers Siding Dunbible Memorial Hall" featuring an amateur music night once a month called “Fifteen Minutes of Fame”.

We welcome you all to come and experience life at Stokers.
