TRIM TREE

Mike Law’s relationship with the timber is intricate and delicate. As a lover of trees, felling them is done with compassion and doesn’t end with the chop. In our verdant valleys trees inevitably grow where they will need to be removed and when confronted with the task his aim is to be entirely wholesome.

His affinity for the creatures - knowing them from the inside out - comes in real handy in making them fall into the designated direction, which can be mind bogglingly precise and often brings great relief to the customer.

His trimming expertise includes hazard inspection, fire break clearing, spur or spurless climbing and garden design & maintenance programs. He is an accredited arbori - and horticulturalist with 20 years experience and is fully insured.

Mike loves building with wood, his eye for what is salvageable is keen and he is likely to encourage you to consider house extensions that you never even dreamt of.

His sheds and bush dunnies are legendary.

Having used various mediums and construction techniques he is well equipped to advice you on the possibilities. In building his own house he used a lot of strawbale construction for instance.

The one tree he likes to bring down most is the Camphor Laurel. Not because of any aversion but because of their overwhelming prolificacy. And because they make such excellent drums.

As a musician he doesn’t only like to beat the drum, he is particularly fond of making them. He uses a variety of feral goat skins to create different sounds. They are unique and functional works of art. He also teaches how to play them.

Drum Making Workshops

Enjoy the magic of creating your very own hand drum in a one or two day workshop where you will be given personal instruction on how to assemble, tighten, tune and care for your new drum. You will also learn to play it. All material supplied including the skin of feral goats from Central West Qld.

Three metal rings are individually fitted to each drum to ensure a snug fit. A very strong eight plat rope with nylon cord runs through the centre and a variety of skins are used to create different sounds. They are truly unique & functional works of art.

This is a lovely way of purchasing your percussion instrument because by using your own energy in the construction of it, you are creating a special bond between you and your drum.
